Celluma Light Therapy
Red light, blue light, this light, that light…. No, it’s not a lethal Squid Games reference- light therapy is a very beneficial adjuvant therapy for healthy skin (among other things!) You’ve seen the funny masks at home, gotten the Instagram ad, and even pondered purchasing one during Nordy’s yearly sale! So why light therapy? What is it, and why is it good for me? Or is it all voodoo magic?
Great questions! Simply stated- light therapy helps cells in the body increase energy production so that they work better. This is important so that our skin cells work harder to regenerate, repair, and turn over more quickly. This allows for shorter treatment plans, faster results, and less downtime to help treat the issues we manage in aesthetics – acne, rosacea, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentations, as well as aches and pains due to increasing circulation and decreasing inflammation benefits of LED therapy.
For any of the nerds reading this (hey hey, I see you and I appreciate you!) Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulate compromised cells. The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoreceptors in the mitochondria and is used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components — slide into my DM’s if that Kreb’s cycle gets you excited ;-)
Up to three treatments a week (every third day ideally) for 30 minutes for about 4-8 weeks is all that is needed for an individual to see benefit from light therapy, but even just 30 minutes once can brighten you up for an event! We’ve always had LED because the benefit is unmatched with other modalities, but recently upgraded to the Mac Daddy of all light therapies, Celluma. Celluma provides consistent, targeted therapy in 3 different settings.
The 1st setting is Acne. This predominantly blue light causes bacteria to destroy itself. Blue is the least penetrating of all three wavelengths. In the Acne setting there is also a lot of red and a little infrared being emitted. These 3 wavelengths work together to enhance outcomes. See more about red light:
The 2nd setting (middle) is the Red dominant program, called Wrinkles. This is the wrinkle/anti-aging program and may be used for everything other than Acne or Pain and can really be beneficial to everyone. The red increases microcirculation to bring more oxygen and nutrients to the area for healthier skin and tissue repair. The red also reduces the redness and inflammation associated with the acne lesions. Red enhances immune and lymphatic response for better drainage/removal of dead cells and toxins from the area.
The 3rd setting is Aches & Pain. This is near-infrared dominant and is the deepest penetrating setting. You can use this for all pain, joint, muscle issues. This is an anti-inflammatory setting and is excellent for increasing micro-circulation, angiogenesis and neurogenesis. This is a great setting for supporting any condition located deeper in the tissue, such as post-surgical incisions/healing, muscle fatigue and tension, and recovery.
Light therapy has relatively few contraindications including: current photosensitive drug therapy use, history of seizures/ epilepsy, injected steroid therapy, and avoiding that preggo belly and breastfeeding chest area (face is fine). In summary- light, or phototherapy- is a fantastic re-charge for your cells! It’s a wonderful way to relax and unwind from a busy stressful day that doesn't take up too much time. Think of it as a reverse tanning bed from all thoses naughty years we had.
All three Celluma programs are designed to deliver a full therapeutic dose of energy in 30 minutes, so, for better/faster results we recommend using for the full 30 minutes whenever possible. Celluma therapy is an included free benefit of the Aiyana Atelier VIP Experience- click below for all that is included with the VIP program. It is also incorporated into facials (time dependent). Email info@aiyanaatelier.com for individual session and package pricing details, or if you are interred in a travel friendly, portable option of a Celluma device.
